Soujok Sandwich | Fattoush Girls
The king of Syrian street food, this flavorful blend of Armenian origins is subtly spicy. Traditionally used to flavor sausages, it's a wonderful addition to ground beef or lamb cooked in burgers, pizzas, or sandwiches.
Ingredients for 6 sandwiches:
500 g of medium-lean ground beef
2 tbsp ghee (samneh)
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 tbsp. soujok spice
2 tbsp sweet or hot chili paste, to taste
½ tsp salt
6 30 cm (12 in) submarine rolls
Trim :
1 tbsp olive oil
½ tsp ground cumin
½ tsp Aleppo pepper
5 small sour gherkins, drained and halved lengthwise
4 tomatoes, cut into quarters
Preparation :
In a bowl, mix the ground beef with the ghee, garlic, spices, chili paste and salt until the meat is well browned.
With wet hands, form 6 meatballs, then shape them into long sausages. Divide the meat among the submarine buns.
In a panini press, grill the sandwiches for 3 to 4 minutes or until the meat is cooked through.
Prepare the filling. In a bowl, mix the olive oil, cumin, and Aleppo pepper.
Top each sandwich with pickles, tomatoes, and the oil mixture.
